Have Muscle Pain? Muscle Relaxant Pills Can Help

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Soma is a muscle relaxer that is prescribed to treat a wide range of muscle pain in the body. It works by blocking pain receptors in the brain and nerve endings, so that the pain communication can not be completed. When you feel muscle pain your nerves are telling your brain to tell your body to experience painful discomfort. Soma pills block this type of brain transmission so that your pain is greatly reduced or eliminated altogether.

These pills are often used to treat muscle spams, chronic back pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, degenerative disc disease, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, herniated discs, severe insomnia, interstitial cystitis, lupus, lyme disease, migraines that are disabling, cluster headaches, Multiple Sclerosis, myofascial pain syndrome, osteoarthritis, restless leg syndrome, scoliosis, and severe tension headaches. Soma supplements will typically be prescribed based on the severity and how chronic the condition is. If someone only has a few migraines a month, Soma supplements will not be prescribed for the condition. Those with multiple sclerosis that causes disabling pain, would likely get a higher dose of Soma pills to control the pain so that they can live comfortably.

Soma pills are typically used in conjunction with physical therapy depending on what type of muscular problems the patient is having. Muscle cramping can be treated with Soma supplements as well, but may or not may require physical therapy.

Soma pills may also become habit forming, so they are used with caution and prescribed with great care. Drug abusers and addicts should not be prescribed this medicine, and individuals should never “share” their pills. This is illegal and cause great harm, especially if the individual dies from an overdose. Suddenly stopping your pill course could upset your body and trigger a withdrawal.

Soma pills have the potential to cause an allergic reaction. If you have a sensitivity to meprobamatas and carisoprodol then do not take this medicine. If you have seizure disorders, liver disease or kidney disease then Soma may not be safe for you. If it is the only option doctors will need to run a few tests to determine what dose would be safe and effective.

While soma supplements can greatly reduce severe muscle pain, overdose is possible. Even a small amount over the recommended dosage can cause severe breathing trouble, fast heartbeat, and even trouble thinking correctly.

The side effects for soma pills do not typically bother most people, but they include loss of feeling, weakness and inability to walk straight, light headedness, seizures, and vision loss (temporary and permanent). These side effects are severe and if you experience them you should go to the hospital immediately. Less serious side effects to look for include sleepiness, blurred vision, headaches, and nausea.

A Skeletal Muscle Relaxant

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Soma is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant, although it does not work to directly relax tense skeletal muscle. Instead, it relieves acute muscle spasm, through its sedative properties.

Generally, Soma is prescribed as just one part of a pain-management program, in addition to rest, physical therapy and other strategies for the relief of pain associated with acute musculoskeletal conditions. In patients who suffer from acute porphyria or who have an allergic reaction to carisoprodol- or meprobamate-related compounds, Soma may be contraindicated.

As with all medications, use of Soma carries some potential risks. Patients should first be aware of the sedative properties of Soma, an effect that may significantly impair the user’s ability to operate a motor vehicle or other machinery. Care should be taken in performing these tasks until the effect on the user is fully determined.

There is a potential for the forming of a dependence on Soma. For those with a history of substance abuse problems, Soma ought to be prescribed with extreme caution. Other side effects of the drug may include extreme weakness, dizziness, temporary vision loss, agitation, confusion and disorientation. Generally, symptoms subside within several hours, although the patient may require a short hospital stay to assist in managing the effects.

The degree of safety with which a pregnant or breastfeeding woman may use Soma is yet undetermined, and as a result the drug may not be suitable for use by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or those who may become pregnant. Further, it has been shown that the concentration of Soma in users’ breast milk is in concentrations of between two and four times more than that of maternal plasma. Therefore, use by mothers who are breastfeeding may not be recommended.

In rare cases, patients have experienced seizures while using Soma, both those patients who have had previous seizure disorder and those with no such history. Further, because Soma is metabolized by the kidney and excreted by the kidneys, to help avoid excess accumulation in the body. Because of that, administration of Soma to patients experiencing diminished functioning of the liver or kidneys ought to be accompanied by a high degree of caution.

Other possible side effects of the drug include tachycardia, flushing of the face, vertigo, dizziness, syncope, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, and others.

An overdose of Soma can cause depression of the central nervous system, which can lead to coma in sever cases. Overdose can also result in shock, respiratory depression, seizures, and death in rare cases. Patients are advised to seek medical attention immediately if they experience any of the following: blurred vision, tachycardia, euphoria, respiratory depression, headache, hallucination, confusion, muscular incoordination, or rigidity of the muscles.

Why Does My Stomach Hurt? The Top 3 Reasons Why Your Stomach Always Hurts

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

Do you frequently wonder “why does my stomach hurt”? If so then today I’ll provide the top 3 reasons for why your stomach always hurts or why you experience chronic stomach pain and what you can start doing today to begin correcting this condition that requires serious attention.

3 Reasons for Chronic Pain

#1 – Lack of Stomach Acid: That’s right a lack of stomach acid is always the problem, rarely do people produce too much and have problems as a result. With a lack of this acid, stomach ulcers are more frequent, bacteria that would otherwise be destroyed on consumed food is allowed to pass through and infect the body such as H.Pylori. As well a lack of acid frequently leads to a condition known as candida overgrowth which I’ll discuss in a second.

#2 – Improper Chewing/Too much liquid: When you eat too quickly and fail to chew your food well enough you place extra stress on your stomach to do all the added work. It’s even worse if you don’t chew your food (ideally until paste like consistency), you suffer from low stomach acid & you drink liquids with your meals which will only dilute your stomach acid further. The solution to which is to stop doing all of these things. Chew your food to a paste, don’t drink any more than 1 glass of water over the course of 30 min before a meal and 2 hours afterwards.

#3 – Chronic Candida: This is a yeast that thrives inside anyone with low stomach acid, ironically it can cause a great deal of digestive pain which most people mistake for stomach pain. You see your stomach is actually much higher in your chest, odds are you’re feeling pain a little lower in your intestines, this is exactly where candida does all its damage. The list of symptoms it causes is endless, however the most common associated symptom is digestive pain which is caused by the fermentation and growth of the yeast inside your body. If you also experience gas &/or bloating as well then the odds are great that it’s candida causing your problems.

The first step is to learn about candida, fill out a quick questionnaire to see if it’s the cause of your problems and learn the first thing you need to do in order to eliminate it for good!

10 Side Effects of the CPAP Machine

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

The CPAP machine will help with your apnea. Unfortunately it is not the most comfortable thing in the world. Here are 10 symptoms to expect and what to do about them.

1. Claustrophobia – Having the mask on will probably be uncomfortable, especially initially. Use it as much as you can bear to begin with, but try to increase the duration each night. It can help to challenge, and maybe even reward yourself if you make it through the night

Don’t use straps that are too tight. Use it while awake, in the hours before bedtime to get used to the sensations. Anti-anxiety drugs may help if things get unbearable – ask your doctor if this option is for you.

2. Blocked nose or irritation – The CPAP machine air is very dry. The air may cause a response in the delicate nasal areas, often a dripping nose, sneezing, blockages or stinging. You might also have occasional bleeding from the nose. Humidification of the air, which your machine may be able to do can help with these symptoms. If your machine doesn’t have this feature, find one that does.

3. A mask that fits poorly or loses pressure – There are masks in all sorts of shapes, from full face to nostrils only; many come in different sizes as well. Try a range of masks until you find the best one for you. The CPAP helps with your symptoms but isn’t a cure; you may need to wear the mask every night for a long time. Find one that fits properly

Facial hair like beards and moustaches along and dirty oily skin may stop the seal from being properly air tight. Take care of your face and the mask and the performance may well improve.

4. No improvements – It can be disheartening when the CPAP machine interrupts your night. Try to remember the positive aspects of the treatment, consider keeping a diary nad record if headaches lessen or you feel less tired in the morning. Goals or personal competitions can help to keep the mask on. If the sleep apnea is not improving after a period of months consult your health professional

5. Unable to nose breath – Sleep apnea is relieved by pressure to the throat behind the nose. If you can’t breath through your nose than it may not be effective. Surgery may be needed if there is an underlying problem with your nasal passages. Over the counter medication to help with flu symptoms may also be effective. There are a range of full face masks that may be more suited to you

6. Pressure and headaches – You need to allow the pressure from the machine to escape from your bodies cavities. Normally air will go through the ear, however if you have a cold or flu the blockage may prevent this. Use of the machine may need to be halted until the symptoms clear

7. Bloating – You should not experience an excess of air in your stomach while using the machine. Flatten your sleeping alignment so that air is not blocked in the throat. Use only 1 pillow. The pressure may also be set too high

8. Noise – Older models can have a distinct humming or vibration. Keep the machine as far away from you as physically possible if it’s disturbing. Newer models are much quieter

9. Interfering with the tube – Knocking or tangling the cords and tubes can be one of the most annoying problems. The more you use the CPAP machine the better you will get at sleeping with it. Use blankets to keep obstructions away from you and position the machine where it will be more difficult to hit.

10. Removing the mask at night – Don’t remove the mask during the sleeping hours. Disconnect the apparatus from the machine. If you leave the mask on for these night tasks you will probably start using it again.
